Wie wird eine Boutonnière am Revers befestigt? - Herr von Welt

How is a boutonnière attached to the lapel?

Reverse flowers and buttonhole flowers

"First, we distinguish between the lapel flower and boutonnière. Without making it a science, it should be noted that the lapel flower can also be attached with a needle, clip, or magnet. The boutonnière (aka buttonhole), on the other hand, as the name suggests, always finds its place in the buttonhole."

Video: Our Boutonnière Edelweiss and how it finds its place in the buttonhole - and stays there - using a silk-wrapped wire loop.

The boutonnière in the buttonhole

The loop-shaped stem of our silk boutonnières (buttonhole flowers) is carefully inserted into the buttonhole, the flower is slightly adjusted and... What is that? A thread? A sewn bridge? Does my jacket even have that?

Wie befestigt man eine Boutonnière im Knopfloch?"Our jacket from the house of Henry Poole is easily recognizable: The helpful thread that keeps the stem from slipping is already in place."

The Step on the Reverse

On tailored jackets, as seen in the picture here, usually installed anyway or upon request: the small helpful thread on the back of the lapel. With our loops, this is by no means mandatory. The boutonnière maintains its position facing the counterpart quite well even without it. And if our loop stem happens to peek out a bit, that's not a problem at all. It hardly stands out and is a charming peculiarity. For boutonnières that are preferably worn with tailcoats and tuxedos, our stem is wrapped in black (instead of green) silk. This way, the mishap, which is not a mishap at all, hardly or not at all stands out.

If you prefer the shown bridge, simply have it added later by your tailor or a alterations shop. With skilled hands, needle, and thread, it is not difficult to try this yourself. In the picture above, the principle is easy to recognize: You sew back and forth with the same thread - and wrap it around itself. This creates a firmer bridge. Life is an adventure and constantly presents us with new challenges.

So, the seam is sewn, the flower is in place, and the last lint is being brushed off the blazer. Nothing stands in the way of an evening with like-minded people at the bar. Living on the edge!
