Tartan, plaid - the checked classic
The plaid, also called tartan or tartan pattern, is no longer reserved for elite Scottish clans. The Herr von Welt thinks that's a shame, but what the heck: How nice to be able to participate in this classic as a non-Scot. Checkered fashion has long been international and always a thing for particularly fashion-conscious men and those who want to stand out from the mainstream. Basically, tartan (and also the beautiful Argyle pattern) is much more than Scottish folklore in the course of history: Queen Victoria was a tartan fan in the era of the same name, Scottish checkered seat covers have been in London Routemaster buses since the 1950s at the latest, the mod movement of the 1980s wore parkas and tartans ... This is how each generation creates its very own classic. The main thing is checkered.
